After being mortally wounded, Cú Chulainn tied himself to a standing stone so he could die on his feet, facing his enemies. A raven then landed on his shoulder, confirming that he was dead.

The back is inscribed “Seaċtṁain na Cásca 1916” meaning “Easter Week 1916”. And it’s inscribed in the old Irish Cló Gaelach.

One of the most important features of this pendant is the shape:

The story of this sunburst shape stretches all the way back to Na Fianna, the ancient band of Irish warriors who were led by figures such as Fionn Mac Cumhaill. The emblem attributed to Na Fianna was the Gal Gréine, which means “sunburst”. The Irish harp often overshadows it, but one of Ireland’s most important historical symbols is the sunburst.

The word “Fianna” has been also been used in modern Irish history, such as the Fenians and Na Fianna Éireann, and so has the sunburst emblem. Even songs have connections to Na Fianna, when Óró Sé Do Bheatha ‘Bhaile was re-written by Patrick Pearse in the lead up to the Easter Rising, he didn’t call the song "Óró" like we do, he named it “An Dord Féinne”, meaning “The Chant of the Fianna”. And the circle of flames, beneath an 8 pointed star, represents the ancient battle symbol of Ireland, the sunburst.

• Size: 1.06 inch (27mm) diameter
• Material: Sterling Silver
• Weight: 12 grams
• Handcrafted by Tim Coffey Jewellery in County Mayo, Ireland
• The first wearable version of this medal ever created
• 20-inch necklace included

PLEASE NOTE: These pendants are a limited-edition run.
