From 1919-1921, thousands of the brave men and women of Ireland took on the might of the British Empire's forces in a 2.5 year war for Irish independence. Although poorly equipped, they defied overwhelming odds. Outgunned and outnumbered, the Irish republican forces turned to guerrilla warfare - using ambushes and hit-and-run tactics to strike at the British forces of occupation. In retaliation, Britain unleashed the infamous Black & Tans and Auxiliaries, many of whom would run rampage through Ireland, burning cities, towns, villages and creameries, and murdering men, women and children. But the poorly equipped Irish, on many occasions, would defeat them - sending a very clear message across the Irish Sea that we demanded freedom from the tyrannical and oppressive British government that had, for centuries, attempted to anglicise and conquer our island.
This jersey is to remember one of the greatest generations of Irish people, honouring the courage and the sacrifice of those men and women that fought in the Irish War of Independence (a.k.a. the Tan War) from January 1919 to July 1921.
This jersey is made in Ireland with high-quality polyester, it’s perfect for history enthusiasts, sports fans, and anyone that is proud to be Irish.
Wear it with pride.
