The Story Behind Irish Rebel Songs

The book contains nice write-ups of the background behind ten significant Irish rebel songs. (I'm sure most of us could guess six or seven of the titles the author chose without looking!) The one that I purchased the book for was "The Valley of Knockanure." My great-grandmother emigrated from Ireland in the 1860s. She lived in Athea, County Limerick, and was a Dalton -- same family as "the Dalton boy" in the song. The book doesn't contain the words to the songs, but those are readily available elsewhere. It's nice having the collection in one volume!

Great to read the background of these songs

Great fun to learn background, history, and have all the lyrics for these great songs. I do wish it also had simple chords to learn to play them!

History of the songs, not the music

I love to read the history of the songs, glad it includes the lyrics (some in both Gaeilge as well as Bearla), but was surprised that it didn't include the music or chords to play them. I just, wrongly, assumed that would be included. Love the history and background!
